Americans have been known for a lot of things over the years. We've been innovative and proud, rebellious and tough - the list goes on - but lately, we've picked up another, less flattering description: We're a nation of whiners, of everybody else but us. Got a problem? Blame someone else.
The problem with opinions is that everyone has one - which would not actually be such a problem if we were not so afraid of being wrong. It is a fear that our opinions will be insignificant, rejected, devalued and shoved in the nearest dumpster that often keeps us from voicing them.
Every college has at least one dormitory with a dreadful reputation beyond all others, that dirty, smelly, nasty place that no one wants to go. Ottawa University's dorm with that reputation is, in fact, Brown Hall and I have been a witness to this nastiness since August when I first began school.
