Eric Cordell, junior business administration major, has been elected as student body president for the 2008-2009 academic school year.

This is Cordell's second year running for OU student body president. During the 07-08 school year, Cordell ran against Teranee' Hutch and Shannon Fisher for the student body president position but lost to Hutch.

Hutch's president initiatives were volunteer service days for OU students to give back to the Ottawa community. She is proud of the time that she spent representing OU.

"My term as Student Body President has been a life changing experience, due to the many networking opportunities that were presented to me as I interacted with professionals in the community and at the University. I have grown into a more mature individual, because as Student Body President, you have to deal with various situations that student's encounter. I enjoyed all of the experiences that I have had as Student Body President, because I have explored a professional realm that I would otherwise not have been exposed to if I had not become Student Body President. I will definitely miss fulfilling the role," Hutch said.

She hopes Cordell will have the same rewarding outcomes that she experienced as president.

"I wish Eric Cordell the best and I have high hopes that he will continue to reach out to the Student Body and meet their needs. I would also like to thank everyone, especially the Board of Trustees, for their continuous support during my term and as a student at Ottawa University," Hutch said.

The student body president primarily serves as the liaison among faculty, administrators and students. Cordell's student body president initiatives are to strengthen retention with current and new students.

"There are numerous reasons as to why a student wants to come to Ottawa University, and there are numerous reasons as to why a student will leave here as well. Building on Ottawa's strengths, eliminating our weaknesses and taking advantages of our opportunities will bring the best out in this institution. Steps to bridge that gap starts immediately, I will be conducting weekly meetings with students from each represented class. This will allow me to communicate directly with students on and off campus," Cordell said.
